J. Cole | Middle Child | Single Review

Dreamville Records, Roc Nation, & Interscope Records
Rating: Thumbs Up
A year since the release of his album KOD, J. Cole released a banger with his new single “Middle Child.” The melody starts with a clean and steady tempo that remains consistent throughout its runtime. The steadiness of beat and tempo match J. Cole’s rap flow, creating a hype-like atmosphere that keeps the head bopping. Not only does “Middle Child” convey an elusive flow, but it also showcases the lyrical genius of J. Cole. He raps: “I copied your cadence, I mirrored your style. I studied the greats, I’m the greatest right now.” Nonstop rhyme after rhyme is delivered, showing the consistency that he has developed within his rap career. The track is a snippet of what good production J. Cole has hot and ready for audiences in the future.
