Sade | Flower For The Universe | Single Preview
Record Label: Disney

The soulful, sometimes secretive Sade will break an eight-year-long silence with her release of “Flower For The Universe,” for the upcoming film A Wrinkle in Time. Sade has been a strong influence in the world of neo-soul and smooth jazz since 1983, with a husky and restrained voice that has drawn comparisons to the late Billie Holiday. Her contributions to the canon of contemporary jazz have helped legitimize the subgenre “quiet storm”—named after the record by Smokey Robinson. Quiet storm refers to a style and radio format of smooth, sultry, romantically inclined R&B. Sade’s releases are, for the most part, sporadic and span across vast stretches of time. The longest waiting period between records took place between the release of Lovers Rock in 2000 and Soldier of Love in 2010. The track will be released as part of the film’s soundtrack the same day of the film’s release, on March 9.
