Tame Impala|”Lost in Yesterday”|Single Review
Tame Impala’s “Lost in Yesterday” lacks a clear melody and is surprisingly monotonous. Moving between the same five notes, Kevin Parker’s voice features the same watered down, dreamy sound present in all of the group’s songs. With a boring bass line and repetitive synthesizer, the 80s futuristic vibe is lost halfway through the song. While the actual musical component is lacking, the lyrics featured in “Lost in Yesterday” are emotionally provocative, with a comforting c’est la vie attitude. Lyrics like “Eventually, terrible memories turn into great ones” and “So if they call you, embrace them / If they hold you, erase them” inspires the listener to honor their past but look to the future. “Lost in Yesterday” is musically unmemorable but lyrically poetic.
