Green Day | Father of All | Single Review
Rating: Thumbs up
It’s been 15 years since the release of American Idiot and the Trump era is much in need of its own rock protest album. What’s interesting about “Father of All…” is it doesn’t sound like a Green Day track. It opens with a pounding guitar riff that sounds more like the Arctic Monkeys and a screechy falsetto very different than Billie Joe Armstrong’s famous creepy baritone. The political messaging in “Father of All…” is much vaguer than “American Idiot”—the lyrics, “Lyin’ in a bed of blood and money,” might be about Trump, or possibly us? Still, it’s a promising sneak peak to an album that’s said to address our current contentious political climate.
