The Neighbourhood | Middle of Somewhere | Single Review

Columbia Records
Rating: Thumbs up

The Neighbourhood’s latest release, “Middle of Somewhere,” surprisingly rings true to their familiar beachy sound, raising expectations for later releases. The song delves in immediately slow and steady, soft guitar humming under melancholy lyrics that sing, “I was on the outside looking in.” The echoes and reverberation of both the instrumentals and vocals paint a vivid picture of one searching for something in an empty place. Also demonstrating the meaning underlying the lyrics, of searching for one’s place in the world and in one’s own mind. The single may disappoint some who were looking for more of the fast-paced tracks from the band but brings high expectations and excitement for more of the familiar soft balmy tracks.
