Returning from their five-album run in 2017, Aussie psych rock seven-piece King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard return with another complete stylistic shift in their single and video “Cyboogie.” The entire band abandons their guitars in favor of blocky, pulsing synthesizers. The song itself is a quirky interpretation of a synthy, disco-esque 80s song, including wacky lyrics about robots and curious, wandering synth melodies. The video doubles up on these peculiarities with a goofy yet moody sci-fi aesthetic, featuring bandleader Stu Mackenzie rolling around in some sort of enormous Star Trek-inspired computer cube. Overall, it is an enjoyable tune and video.
