Gary Clark Jr. | This Land | Music Video Review

Warner Bros.
Rating: 4 out of 5 stars
This Land” by Gary Clark Jr. focuses on racism in America. A rock sound with rapped lyrics reflects the slavery era visuals. Wheat fields, ranch houses, and Confederate flags depict the setting for the deep racist history in America that mirrors today’s racial climate. Lyrics like, “well, I know you think I’m up to something,” concern racist neighbors waiting to alert the police. Images of the burning of nooses and Confederate flags, along with the repetition of, “fuck you, I’m America’s son. This is where I come from,” focus on rebellion. Both the song and the music video are well-made and worth a listen.
