Pond | Daisy | Music Video Review
Spinning Top Records
Rating: Thumbs Down
The Australian band Pond recently released the video for their track “Daisy” off their upcoming album Tasmania. The video was filmed in western Australia, opening with an acknowledgement to the Nyoongar and Kulin people who call the region home. The faded vocals drown in smooth, buttery backing, making the fragmented lyrics even more meaningless. Likewise, the video features the Pond boys romping about in their chukkas through a landscape that turns select objects neon for some reason. Certain lines like, “What about the empire? What about the cross?” suggest post-imperialist themes, but the combination is too vague to draw out anything concrete. The song inevitably renders itself as meaningless as the subject matter it tries to unite.
