Most bizarre celebrity baby names
Maybe they’re born with it, maybe it’s dumb
Ever since Gwyneth Paltrow and Chris Martin named their daughter Apple, awareness has grown surrounding strange baby names. While Apple was the first celebrity child to have an unconventional name go viral, she has definitely been one-upped by celebrity children with even more obscure names.
The unusual celebrity baby name trend began years prior to Apple’s debut with Frank Zappa’s three children. His first child was named Moon Unit Zappa, setting the family off to an obscure start. After Moon Unit came Dweezil Zappa, still an unusual name, but not as severe as Moon Unit. Maybe Zappa decided to name the rest of his children more normal names? Nope. His next child was named Diva Thin Muffin.
No family comes close to the Zappas in the battle of the most unusual names for their children. Since then, many celebrities have challenged the Zappas for the strangest name throne, but the blue ribbon contenders still deserve some recognition.
Filmmaker Robert Rodriguez passed the double ‘R’ names along to his children, naming his clan Rebel Rodriguez, Racer Rodriguez, Rogue Rodriguez, Rocket Rodriguez, and finally, Rhiannon Rodriguez. When your father is best-known for creating outrageous movies like Machete, Machete Kills, and Machete Kills in Space, having one of the most bizarre names around seems like a necessity.
Speaking of Hollywood’s most bizarre, Nicholas Cage is responsible for one characteristically strange name: Kal-El Cage. Who else would he name his child after other than Superman’s Krypton name?
Jason Lee, lead actor in early 2000’s TV show My Name is Earl, named his firstborn son Pilot Inspektor. Lee says that he was inspired by the song “He’s Simple, He’s Dumb, He’s the Pilot” by Grandaddy. Not quite sure if that’s a compliment or a burn to be named after something calling him dumb and simple.
One of the most recent and most questioned celebrity baby names is Cardi B’s baby girl Kulture Kiari Cephus. Cardi B explained that she was named for the meaning behind the word’s original spelling and her husband’s first name. A sweet gesture, still an obscure name.
Most names given to children have a significant meaning to the parent. Sometimes it’s a family name, sometimes it’s a sweet gesture, and sometimes it’s just a combination of random words, like Diva Thin Muffin.
