Weezer | Can’t Knock the Hustle | Single Review
Crush Music / Atlantic
“Can’t Knock the Hustle” by Weezer is a newly released single about Uber drivers. It takes on a funk style with a synth that is accompanied by guitar, drums, and background singers. The drums, with the cymbals being the most apparent, drive the song forward and expertly draw attention to the other layers. Occasionally throughout the piece, trumpets will take over to supplement the refraining lyrics. Rivers Cuomo’s tenor vocals in the song perfectly layer on top of the instruments to create a pleasing piece. Cuomo sings about the constant struggle for more money, singing, “Running up my credit cards / Sellin’ lemonade by the side of the road.” This song is relatable and begs to be played again.
