Go plastic-less and eco-friendly

In the bathroom, a lot of plastic gets used. From shampoo bottles to toothbrushes to hand soap, almost every product uses some form of plastic. It has come to the point where globally, humans buy a million plastic bottles per minute. However, by changing to plastic-less and more eco-friendly options, people will help to stop the flooding of plastic in the  oceans and streets.

Initially, when switching to plastic-free products, it’s surprising to see the amount of plastic people actually use. While this can be somewhat daunting, going plastic-less can be accomplished.

To start, it’s best to think small. This could mean switching a plastic toothbrush for a wooden one, getting rid of liquid body soap for a package-less bar, or using a powder toothpaste in a recyclable container. More concrete changes could include switching to shampoo and conditioner bars or using lotion in recyclable tins.

Another alternative is a company called Lush Cosmetics. Lush focuses on creating cruelty-free, Mother-Nature friendly, and all-natural products. From facemasks to make-up to mouthwash tablets and everything else needed to stay clean and fresh, Lush products can easily be substituted as a waste-less option.

At Lush, anything that is needed to be in a container is in one in which can be reused or recycled. They also have a great program to incentivize such action. When five containers or other acceptable recyclable products are returned, a free product of the consumer’s choice is rewarded. The prices are comparable and the products last just as long.

For example, the Godiva Shampoo Bar from Lush is a promising good. This product is a concentrated puck of shampoo that outlasts two to three bottles of the liquid shampoo. One bar will last up to 80 washes and is packed with essential oils and fresh ingredients.

A huge concern surrounding these earth-saving products is that they will not work as well compared to other products. However, most products are full of chemicals and unnatural ingredients; compared to eco-friendly and plastic-free products, all the ingredients are natural and are safe for everyday use.

When it comes to using sustainable products, there is some experimenting in order to find what works for certain individuals. But there are products out there for everyone, because they can be specific to an individual’s needs and are applicable for all ages.

So, next time that Suave bottle needs to be replaced, check out Lush or other stores that offer sustainable alternatives. The results are promising and the gratification of helping save the planet is worth it. The only regret will be not be switching earlier.
