February 20 1967 – April 5 1994
On April 5, 1994 Kurt Cobain was found dead in his Seattle, Washington home. Cobain was only 27 when he died. Cobain grew up listening to hard rock and heavy metal bands like Led Zeppelin, Black Sabbath, and Queen inspired by these sounds, Nirvana came together and created their own sound that was later dubbed grunge. The band’s success with their second album, Nevermind, hailed Cobain as the spokesman of a generation. Cobain was always humble; he didn’t enjoy the spotlight or being the voice of a generation. But he had a gift for writing songs that many young people could relate to regardless of the era. Cobain’s songwriting has been compared to great writers like Bob Dylan and John Lennon. Kurt Cobain helped give thousands of listeners a voice and music they could relate to on a deep, personal level. He will be forever remembered, and he will be forever missed.
