The Lola and Rob Salazar Student Wellness center is opening soon

Amber Long, Executive Director, CU Denver Wellness & Recreation Services.

I hope your semester’s going well. It’s been a busy one at the new Lola & Rob Salazar Student Wellness Center, and our excitement is sky high. The construction crew is putting on the finishing touches; we’ve added some professional staff members, and we’re hiring students for a variety of positions.

Want to work where you play? Just go to our Wellness & Recreation Services website and apply for the position that suits you best. Some jobs will start this summer and others will begin in August. The hours are flexible to accommodate student employees’ academic requirements. We’re especially looking for American Red Cross certified lifeguards and bicycle shop associates who can fix and maintain bikes.

From design to construction to daily use, providing our student members the best experience possible has been our top priority, including the flooring selected for different areas and specific activities.

Two courts in the gymnasium and two fitness studios will be maple wood. The third gymnasium court will be a poured rubber floor, suitable for futsal, indoor hockey, tennis, and other court sports, while the fitness areas will feature Ecore rubber flooring, designed for various fitness activities including weight lifting, jumping, and functional training.

We expect the center to open in late May or June, and when it does, students enrolled in summer semester will have total access affiliated with their summer tuition and fees. Students enrolled in spring semester, but not enrolled in summer session, may purchase access to the facility for $10 per week. For future semesters, including Fall 2018, wellness center membership for enrolled students will be included in their semester tuition and student fees.

We can’t wait to see you soon in the brand new Lola & Rob Salazar Student Wellness Center.

This is one in a series of Wellness Zone articles addressing the seven dimensions of wellness that the new Lola & Rob Salazar Student Wellness Center will be built on—social, physical, emotional, spiritual, financial, environmental, and creative wellness. Even before the center opens, intramural and club sports along with FREE wellness classes are already being offered by Wellness & Recreation Services staff.
