“An Acre of Land” was originally a spirited British folk song, but PJ Harvey took a whole new perspective on the song for the upcoming UK movie Dark River. The normally joyful tune is transformed into something desolate through the use of a minor key and a single acoustic guitar. Slowing down the original song brings out a haunting feeling that fits perfectly with any type of horror film, and the simplistic sound of Harvey’s vocals adds another layer to the somber mood of the song. Instead of high trills or any major change in vocals, the listener is greeted by the pure, soft, and steady voice of PJ Harvey.
