Amy Schumer, and her crazy, comedic antics have returned with the release of the trailer for her upcoming movie I Feel Pretty.
Releasing in theaters June 29, I Feel Pretty tells the story of an ordinary woman who struggles with feelings of insecurity and inadequacy in her everyday life. When she regains consciousness from a fall, she suddenly starts to believe she is the most beautiful and capable woman on the planet. With her newfound confidence, she feels empowered and starts to live her life fearlessly and flawlessly, despite the fact that her appearance never changed.
I Feel Pretty appears to be just another example of faux-feminism. What was supposed to be an anthem that promotes love and acceptance of women for who they are rather than their appearance slowly turned into a bitter shaming of girls whose appearance abides by societal norms, like supermodels in magazines—as if models don’t go through periods of low self-esteem or self-consciousness at all.
This trailer reiterates the “if you’re not skinny and don’t wear makeup, then you’re ugly,” stereotype; and for 2018 this is old, tired, and a waste of time and money.
