As the fall season begins, there are many events in Colorado open to the public to become engaged in the fall festivities. One, for example, includes the Haunted Field of Screams, a movie screening in a cornfield in Thornton. The Haunted Field of Screams is a free and public event where anyone can come to enjoy a mix of horror movies and family friendly flicks throughout October. Attending the movie is free, but food, drinks, and haunted attractions are ticketed. “This is an on-going tradition with Haunted Field of Screams,” Cristina Ceballo, the Communications Director of the event, said. “We just want to bring out the community to experience our haunted location.”

It’s a great time to come with the family and get spooked and have fun,” Alex, a regular attendee, said.

Each movie runs for about two hours, but the length of the event depends on how many films are screening. For the optimal Haunted Field of Screams experience, it’s best to dress warm and bring blankets and/or lawn chairs to sit on.

The movie screening is not the only attraction Haunted Field of Screams offers to the public. Attendees can journey through a cornfield where they will encounter various themed rooms that are both frightening and fun; or they can go to the Zombie Paintball Massacre, where survivors must journey through an abandoned farm where the undead wait in the shadows in order to reach the zombie patrol outpost where survivors are trained to use high-powered paintball guns.

“It’s a terrifying experience,” Taylor Jones, who participated in the corn maze, said. “I’m probably not going to sleep tonight but that’s just me. There’s a lot of jump scares that make you scream.”

For more family friendly events, Maize in the City offers daytime attractions where anyone can bring the family in for an exploration of a 20-acre Crazed Corn Field Maze, attendees can take a ride with ponies, go out looking for the perfect pumpkin in their pumpkin patch, or bring your little ones for a scavenger hunt and safe trick-or-treating, and much more. However, these events are ticketed events sold online or on-site at the ticket booth. Maize in the City is a part of Haunted Field of Screams so they are located in the same place.

Upcoming screenings at the Haunted Field of Screams will be on Oct. 8, 13, 22, and they will be showing Beetlejuice, Texas Chainsaw Massacre, Friday the 13th, and Rogue One: A Star Wars Story.

Haunted Field of Screams is located at: 10451 McKay Road, Thornton, CO 80233.
