On Friday, Aug. 18, the Colorado Rockies hosted the Milwaukee Brewers for their annual CU Night. 22-year-old right-handed Pitcher, German Marquez, took the mound looking for his tenth win of the season.

In his first at bat, Rockies’ Center elder Charlie Blackmon gained momentum for the team, hitting a fly ball to centerfield for his 29th homer of the season. But, it wasn’t long until the Brewers’ Right Fielder Domingo Santana would match Blackmon’s homer with one of his own.

The Brewers increased their lead over the Rockies when a single from second baseman, Neil Walker, sent first baseman Eric ames home. But, a triple by Rockies’ third Baseman, Nolan Arenado, in the bottom of the third scored two runs from German Marquez and Charlie Blackmon, reclaiming the Rockies’ lead, 3-2.

The Rockies and Brewers danced with the lead all night. Regardless of the score, University of Colorado students and alumni were in attendance cheering on their home team.

The Rockies offered a ticket package for CU alumni that included a ticket to the game and a free, specially designed ball cap that featured the Rockies’ logo in CU colors: black and gold.

CU alumna Julia Lyons regularly attends CU Night. “I graduated in ‘91, and CU will always have a special place in my heart,” said Lyons. “I always try to come to CU Night every year to show my support, and I’ve been about four times now. The Rockies always make us feel really special, giving us free things. The hats are awesome. It’s just always a really cool experience. Once in awhile, I run into other alumni and it’s always great to catch up with them.”

The Rockies rounded out the night with two more homers and five more runs breaking a four-game winning streak for the Brewers. The final score was 8-4, and the win put the Rockies in first place for the National League Wild Card.
